The book is an outstanding addition to any library, whether religious or historical. I have not identified any issues with this translation; although i've only been using it for a month and without significant research on translation issues. The book itself deserves 4 stars in my opinion. The problem is in the navigation to the book, chapter, and verse of interest. The setup is very convenient for someone that plans to read any of the books cover to cover. I'm more interested in searching for a number of individual passages. In that case, it's impossible to navigate quickly. The table of contents goes only to book and chapter and fully spells out chapter titles. On my kindle each chapter title take half a page. There are no subchapter selections or fast ways to navigate from one to another subchapter. So, it takes shuffling through page after page of contents to find the right chapter, then many many page turns to get to the right subchapter. Also, and significantly, line numbers are not added in this version. To summarize, I would give the book a very high mark, the translation I have no reason to mark it low, and the kindle adaptation i give a low mark. If you plan to read a book cover-to-cover then the navigation issues should not be important.

Flavius Josephus The Complete Works of Flavius Josephus eBook Flavius Josephus William Whiston Reviews
If you are only going to have one other book to aid you in your Old Testament studies, this is the one to have.
Josephus can be a bit of heavy going at times, because he goes into great detail but if you can stay with him, he can teach you a lot.
If you have ever read Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, you'll have the flavour of Josephus. He answers questions about Jewish history that you didn't know you needed to ask. It's the kind of book you'll highlight and bookmark all over. You can spend a lot of time here but I found him rewarding.
I"ve had this collection for months as part of a Bible Study software program and I haven't yet read a tenth of it.
Josephus tells of the history of the Jewish wars that the Bible doesn't. The behind-the-scenes story of the torment of the Israeli people. A very informative, descriptive, history of God's chosen people. The book was not difficult to read, but the amount of detail was quite intense to follow. I found myself taking notes in order to follow name's and places described by Josephus. To add to the research, this time period had many people with the same name. I was truly impressed with Josephus' s description of how Titus' s Roman army moved with men leading it to build roads and the order in which they marched. When Josephus describes the attack on Jerusalem I found the book hard to put down. The death and lack of respect for human life pained my heart. I would have given the book five stars if it wasn't for the amount of resource I looked up just to stay knowledgeable with where these city's we're and who exactly I was reading about. This book took me four month's to read.
Be aware this is an older edition of the Josephus, complete with archaic vocabulary and no editor's notes or commentary (that I can yet find). Hence the budget price. Whereas, both Paul Maier editions, the "Essential" (1995) and "Complete" (1999) Josephus, also use the old Whiston translation (1737), but with the invaluable addition of Maier's commentary, discussion of historical background, updated spelling and vocabulary, pictures, maps, charts, cross-references to Loeb numbers, indexes, etc. See http//www./Complete-Works-Josephus-H-Flavius-Josephus/dp/0825429242/. Neither Maier editions are available digitially (as of this note). My rating is for this edition.
Strongly recommended for anyone interested in theology and history. I purchased this book to search out the references to some historical figures, but Flavius Josephus is a classic read of antiquity sure to interest scholars and those who cite faith as a part of their lives.
Josephus was a Jewish historian living in 100 A.D. He details much of early Jewish history, its battles and interaction with God. The detail provided by Josephus is overwhelming at times. How he obtained so much detail on Moses for example, is remarkable. Josephus writing includes more details of our Creation than described in Genesis.
I managed to struggle through the first 12 percent of this book. It’s so full of typos that multiple times per reading session I had to look up passages on the internet to see the correct wording. I finally decided to abandon the book and search for a better quality version.
If you see the problems of the Middle East to be a consequence of 20th century history, you should read this book. You will realize the 'Middle East' bedeviled empires from the ancient Egyptians onward. At the heart of it lies the Israelite nation and Jewish identity. Josephus' account of the ultimate destruction of the pre-Christian Judaic world in 70 AD is heartbreaking to read, not only for the brutality of the events, but more so for its causes.
The account of the First Jewish War is almost as good a history as Thucydides' History of the Peleponesian War
WARNING FOR THOSE WHO BUY THE KINDLE VERSION...This book is, as is Jewish history itself, very, very long - about 1200 pages in print.
